There are two NHS Digital data sharing initiatives in the news that require your attention if you want to opt-out of your data being collected or shared.
Patients will automatically be opted-in to both schemes without further action.
GPDPR: This refers to the collection of GP-held medical records by NHS Digital. More information is available here.
If you don’t want your data to be collected by NHS Digital you need to register a Type 1 opt-out with us. You can do this by:
- Texting the word T1OPTOUT to 07903588174 (Please DO NOT use this method if your mobile number may be saved against more than one patient, e.g. parents & children, carers, etc.)
- Completing an online form advising us of your preference
National Data Opt-Out: This refers to the sharing of your data by NHS Digital, including records held by GPs (unless a Type 1 opt-out is in place), Hospitals, Community Services, etc. More information is available here.
If you don’t want your data to be shared by NHS Digital for anything other than your direct care you need to register your opt-out preference with NHS Digital by:
- Completing this form (if you are aged over 13)
- Visiting this page (including guidance on how to register your choice for dependents, etc.)
This chart shows how each opt-out is applied.
